Elie Wiesel, Author of Night, Aged 12

Our English class is studying the memoir Night, by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel.

I worked in a group with Kate, Lucy and Ned to create an Empathy Map for Elie at this age.

At the start of the book, Elie is 12, the third oldest and only son, he also lives in Sighet, Transylvania. His three siblings are Hilda, the eldest; then Bea, and the youngest is Tzipora. He has both parents who's names are Shlomo Wiesel (His father) and Sarah Feig (His mother.) He was willing to learn more about about religion, he asked his father to find him a master who could guide him in his studies toward Kabbalah, but his father thought he was too young so he found one himself, his name was Moishe the Beadle. He would also study Talmud and run to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the temple. His father rarely displayed his feelings with him or his family.
